The Eastern Ontario Model Forest has recently issued a State of the Forest Report for 1998-1999. The document prepared by Lome Johnson with Paul Heaven, Glenside Ecological Services, under the direction of the Forest Science Committee, was issued as EOMF Information Report No. 42. This first report provides benchmark information on several measures of the ecological social and economic attributes of Eastern Ontario forests and is based on the best information currently available and which has been collected from a variety of sources. An appendix summarizes some of the data gaps and difficulties encountered in measuring and reporting on the selected indicators. Subsequent reports will be based on additional information and will provide the evidence that is required to asceaain whether the forests are being managed in a sustainable manner.
